    Vehicle Networking involves reliable connections between the different vehicle domains (In-Vehicle Networking or IVN) and the secure processing of the vehicle network data (Vehicle Network Processing or VNP). In-vehicle networking involves the use of transceivers, hubs, and switches to interconnect electronic control units (ECUs) in the vehicle using different types of interfaces including CAN/CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet.

    Vehicle network processing is performed by a central gateway that provides physical isolation while securely processing and interconnecting the different networks. It manages which nodes can legitimately communicate with other nodes, and external networks via the connectivity domain, to provide security for the connected vehicle. The gateway is converts between different vehicle communication protocols and is capable of processing large amounts of data required for connected and autonomous vehicles.

    It can also support software over-the-air updates for the electronic control units to enable new features that improve safety, security, and user experience. More advanced service-oriented gateways provide higher performance and networking capabilities that can support new vehicle services that can leverage the fast-growing vehicle data and enable new opportunities for the automotive industry.
